Many of my works under “Traditional Artwork” are paintings either on paper, canvas, or wood, using various media such as oil, acrylic, casein, gouache, oil stick, pastels, and encaustic. I have always been interested in the use of mixed media on my paintings.

They are personal, an exploration of content, style, and psychological expression.

A large painting on paper, searching for shapes in space.

This is one of my paintings in which different people interpret shapes in different ways. That fascinates me. I have altered this painting but don't have a new image of it yet.

Exploring color combinations, specifically green and brown.

I remember that I was very touched by a story by a Dutch writer who wrote a story about a young Jewish girl who had been used in medical experiments in a concentration camp.

I really liked the works of Basquiat. This work was done on old Maine barn boards with oils and encaustics.

I was trying to understand the hidden aspects of my person and expressing how I was feeling at that time.

I have always been interested in map-like images and maps. And interested in caves, symbols, ancient signs.

I was living on a peninsula in Maine away from any city. I got pretty bored at times even when I was painting. My emotions felt ugly at times too.

This was a rough time in my life. Painting on paper, posted on a wall.

I remember I was creating this painting for a 2 man show. I pinned the paper to a wall and created it.

Traces of that geology background appear from time to time in my art work.

I love this painting. Love the colors, the surface.

I liked the large forms in the painting and my working on a large scale. Was Interested in 3D space. Don't remember though what it was about.

When I was first in college in Missouri I was involved heavily in Spelunking and Cave Exploration. I thought of darkness, mystery, ancient symbols.

I put this together as a collage, trying to create 3D spaces and disparate elements.

This piece I entered into the Maine Biennial and was accepted. At that time I was really interested in the Neo-Expressionists and Bernard Langlais of Maine.

I just remember the time as being a tumultuous time in my life. Not sure of the details

Influenced at that time by DuBuffet, Picasso.

Looking At The Ugly Green I Used, I Could Only Think Of Naming This Painting "Creep"

I Was Fascinated By The Handprints Of Those Who Had Lived and Died In Desperation. Also Fascinating By Cave Paintings.

A Period In My Life When I Was Strongly Experiencing the Up's And Down's Of My Emotions.

Experiments with Collage and Mixing Up Different Fabrics and Forms of Media.
